The first minutes are about groundwork. Choose a PIN, write your 24-word recovery phrase on paper, and store it where only you can reach it. Never type that phrase into a website, a chat window or a support form — no legitimate app, or page, will ask for it.

Portfolio tracking is where the app earns its place. Accounts from several chains sit side by side with live values, so allocation is visible at a glance instead of guessed across exchanges. Sending is deliberately slower: build the transaction, then verify the address and amount on the device screen before approving it — the step that stops a clipboard hijacker.

Four steps from sealed box to first verified transaction

Install the official desktop app

Download the build for your operating system from the vendor's own domain — never from an ad, a search result or a link in a message. Check the signature or checksum if you can.

Initialize the device on the device

Set a PIN and generate the recovery phrase on the hardware wallet's own screen. Write the 24 words on paper, in order, and store them away from the computer. No photographs.

Connect and add accounts

Plug in over USB, unlock with the PIN, and approve the connection. The app then reads your public addresses and builds your portfolio view — a read-only operation.

Send a small test first

Before any large transfer, verify the receiving address on the device screen with a modest amount. Once it lands, you know the setup behaves exactly as it should.

Two rules cover most of it

Crypto is lost far more often to a hurried click than to broken cryptography. Slow down at the two moments that matter: the backup, and the approval.

Nobody legitimate asks for your recovery phrase

Not a support agent, not a “migration portal”, not a validation form, and not this page. Your 24 words are the wallet. Anyone who has them has your funds — enter them nowhere but the device itself.

Do keep the recovery phrase offline — paper or metal, in a place you physically control.

Do read the device screen for every transaction. If the address differs, cancel immediately.

Do update firmware and the desktop app together, and only through the app itself.

Don't screenshot the phrase, email it to yourself, or store it in a password manager or cloud note.

Don't click “connect wallet”, give remote access, or install a “fix” that appears in a pop-up or DM.

Don't treat a public address as anonymous — every transfer is permanent and visible.

FAQ

Questions that come up while starting up

Does the desktop app hold my crypto?

No. It displays public account data and prepares transactions for approval. Private keys remain on the hardware wallet, and only the device can sign — so the app can be readable, useful and still keep nothing valuable.

What happens if my computer is lost or infected?

Your funds stay put. An attacker without the device and PIN cannot sign anything, and without your recovery phrase cannot restore your wallet elsewhere. Replace the computer, reinstall the app, plug the device back in.

Why did a transaction need approval on the device?

That is the security model working. The device re-renders the destination address and amount on its own trusted screen, so a compromised computer cannot quietly swap the recipient.

How often should I update?

Whenever the app offers a newer version — through the app's own updater, not a file someone sent you. Updates add chain support and security fixes; skipping them for months leaves easy gaps.

Can I use the desktop app on more than one computer?

Yes, as a read-only view. Install it wherever you like, but you will need the device connected to move funds from any of those installations.
